Doing inspection, maintenance or repair work on
roofs is not for everyone – not all of us feel comfortable moving or spending
time at heights, so the best advice for people who have a fear of heights is to
stay away from such work.
If you are among the fortunate who feel comfortable
up there, here are a few safety tips from Orlando roofers to make sure that you can work in safety:
-
Wear the right clothes – it is
not enough to wear comfortable clothes for work done on your roof. Your clothes
also need to be suitable for protecting you from the elements, including cold
weather, rain, sunburns and heatstroke;
-
Use the right accessories –
you will need work gloves to protect your hands from sharp objects, safety
glasses to protect your eyes from dust and flying objects, a helmet to protect
your head on the event of a fall or from flying objects and special, non-slip
work boots to prevent falls;
-
Use safety harnesses – even if
you can walk confidently on roofs, using safety harnesses and anchoring
yourself safely is essential for making work on the roof safe;
-
Get a safe ladder and use it
right – make sure that your ladder is set up on even ground and it does not
wobble or move when you step on it. Place your ladder in the right angle and
anchor it, too, then pay attention to have only one limb in the air as you
climb (always hold the ladder firmly and climb slowly).
