Walking on a roof is dangerous even in the best of
circumstances. Most roofers will tell you that it’s not a good idea unless you
have a proper safety harness and a ladder, and even then you shouldn’t attempt
it if it just rained, or if the roofing surface is still wet after you just
washed the roof not long ago.
While some surfaces are safer than others, the issue with
tile roofing is that the tiles are typically pretty small and the space between
them is smaller than between regular shingles. This makes it even harder to
support yourself properly while you’re walking on the roof. Add that to the
fact that ceramic tiles can be more slippery than many other materials like
asphalt or wood, and you have yourself a recipe for disaster, if you get up on
top of your tile roof without any proper protection or safety gear.
