Can You Walk on a Sloped Tile Roof Safely?

Walking on a roof is dangerous even in the best of circumstances. Most roofers will tell you that it’s not a good idea unless you have a proper safety harness and a ladder, and even then you shouldn’t attempt it if it just rained, or if the roofing surface is still wet after you just washed the roof not long ago.

While some surfaces are safer than others, the issue with tile roofing is that the tiles are typically pretty small and the space between them is smaller than between regular shingles. This makes it even harder to support yourself properly while you’re walking on the roof. Add that to the fact that ceramic tiles can be more slippery than many other materials like asphalt or wood, and you have yourself a recipe for disaster, if you get up on top of your tile roof without any proper protection or safety gear.

If you absolutely have to walk on your tile roof to inspect it or to fix a few loose tiles, make sure that you have a sturdy harness that you’ve already checked in advance. Also, don’t forget your gloves, roofing shoes and protective helmet, as even with a harness, it can be easy to injure yourself if you lose your balance. A better choice would be to simply leave the work to safety conscious Orlando roofing contractors, as they know precisely how to handle any job related to repairing your tile roof without any safety concerns.
